Forecast for 14th January 2013 Spot Euro EURUSD broke last month’s high at 1.3300/08and has reached the next target of 1.3385. We are breaking higher again this morning and if we can hold on above the 100 week moving average at 1.3387 we should start to close in on the next target of 1.3491 this week. If prices start to fall below 1.3350 however we could see further weakness down to 1.3308/00. We are looking for a bounce from here but longs will need a stop below 1.3280.

Forecast for 14th January 2013 Hang Seng Jan contract Hang Seng Futures broke through last week’s high at 23450 as we look for a move to 23614 now, possibly 23790 as the next up- side target. We are just holding on to intraday support seen at 23275 but below here we could test 23127 which should hold the downside for now. However if this fails look for a buying opportunity at 22939/22877. A stop loss is needed below the gap at 22741.

Yesterday our entry long on the S&P was unsuccessful

S&P 500 (Mar 13) INTRADAY Review Yesterday we switched to a long bias for the first time this week and it couldn’t have worked out any better. We felt the Chinese trade balance data as well as the positive Eurozone bond auctions had generated enough positive bias to push the S&P higher. Our long entry level was at 1456.75 and this was tested after the US cash open. Strong support was found at our level before the market posted a strong extension to the upside and rallied above our

ECB offers surprise to investors – EUR strengthens drastically

Review: ECB surprises investors The ECB: As described on Wednesday, we clearly expected that yesterday’s ECB meeting would result in strengthening of EUR. This turned out to be correct. The ECB also showed most clearly that a stronger currency is far from being the most important one of the central bank’s concerns. Generally the following should be noted in yesterday’s announcement from the central bank (read more here): – No indications of discussion of upcoming interest-rate cuts despite

Forecast for 11th January 2013 Brent Crude Feb contract Brent Crude did test last week’s high at 112.90. We expected the market to struggle here and entered shorts with a stop above 113.30. This worked nicely as the market topped at 113.29 and we have now broken the one month uptrend this morning. Hold on to those shorts then as we look for continued weakness to 111.11 and quite possibly 110.76. There is a good chance of a low for the day within this band so worth taking profit on those shorts

The Eurostoxx ended the day with a gain of 0.63%

EUROSTOXX 50 (Mar 13) INTRADAY Review The Eurostoxx ended the day with a gain of 0.63% having traded with a reasonable upside momentum throughout yesterday’s session. Owing to the lack of negative catalysts since the start of the year, markets cheered positive Imports and Exports data from China. Our yesterday’s neutral entry long at 2,695 worked well twice throughout the day, with our first profit target at 2,713 reached in both instances. Strategy Following the gap open on the 2nd January

The strategy suffered from having an unusually tight stop yesterday

S&P 500 (Mar 13) INTRADAY Review The strategy suffered from having an unusually tight stop yesterday. Again the strategy had the right idea in that we continued to favour short plays as any upside would not be sustainable. It was the US cash open that pushed the index higher in what appeared to be a reaction to Alcoa’s earnings from Tuesday night. The mining sector globally benefited the most with the mining heavy weight FTSE100 breaking the 2011 high to make a new 4.5 year high. The

NZDUSD Rally is Incomplete

1minute with ForexSurvivor Latest impact: NZDUSD Rally is Incomplete NZDUSD rally is heading towards a push above the main resistance @8475 which was held twice through a monthly peak in 2012. The momentum is clearing the divergence only to put an add for breaking that resistance targeting 8520. The supports @ 8400 and 8330 should carry the weigh to lock target, and only a close below 8330 negates the bullish aspect.

Straits Times, Topix, Hang Seng CE, Hang Seng, JGB, Kospi, Nikkei

Forecast for 11th January 2013 Straits Times Index The Straits Times rallied further for a test of 3237/38 highs as predicted. This should be tough to beat at this stage so we should be exiting any remaining longs and so far this has been the case. However if we see the market break 3240 this eliminates any short term negative pressure now, so we can buy back in to longs looking for a test of 3257/59 resistance on the way to 2011 highs at 3270/80. More likely we will see the markets drift

Review: Fantastic export figures announced in China China: The export figures announced overnight showed an increase of no less than 14.1% y/y. Particularly Europe and Asia were the driving forces behind this development. The solid increase will support a positive sentiment in today’s market. The US: Barack Obama has chosen Jack Lew to replace Tim Geithner as treasury secretary. Lew is professionally focused on government budgets whereas Geithner was more oriented to the financial system. The Bund opened lower yesterday and reversed sharply

EUROSTOXX 50 (Mar 13) INTRADAY Review Yesterday’s session in the Eurostoxx panned out in a similar style to Tuesday’s trade, with the index remaining within a tight range throughout the relatively quiet session. Our yesterday’s entry short at 2,709 was not reached. Despite the downbeat German data that we have had throughout the week, equity indexes continue to display reluctance with respect to downside momentum. The risk, as we mentioned in our Tuesday’s report remains to the upside.
