S&P 500 (Mar 13) INTRADAY Review The S&P index continues to range sideways with another with every open and close in the first three session of this week all being within a 3 point range between 1467 and 1464. There have been forays to the upside and the downside but these have been short lived as the index reverts back into the middle of the week’s range. Yesterday’s US session was mainly influenced by JP Morgan’s and Goldman Sach’s Q4 earnings reports. The stellar numbers from

Forecast for 18th January 2013 Hang Seng CE Index Jan contract Hang Seng China Enterprises Futures hit support at 11775/45 bottoming exactly here at 11753. We cannot rule out further losses this week with a break lower to 11680/45 then likely to offer a good buying opportunity in the short term. Exit shorts and try longs here with a stop below 11560 as a break targets the gap down to 11461. A push through 12100/120 resistance looks very unlikely now but if it does occur, it should keep the

Review: Market drivers: It is difficult for FX investors to find qualified catalysts to whet risk appetite further. The accounts-reporting season in the US has now really begun and so far we have seen satisfactory results, but the financial statements have not been so excellent that they were able to enhance the sentiment in the FX market. Nor are there any political events right now that offer surprises. The only theme that has generally caught investors’ attention is the intensifying

Forecast for 17th January 2013 Gasoil ICE Feb contract Gasoil looks like we are running out of momentum as we have warned and can expect a small correction. We dipped below 948.83 yesterday but recovered quickly. If we move back below here today look for a test of 943.38 before better support at 939.95/937.92. Here we can exit all shorts and try longs for a bounce with a stop below 936. Resistance at 955.60 could see us struggle. If we do push higher then 964.50/966.00 should remain very tough

Forecast for 17th January 2013 Spot Euro EURUSD held just above our support at 1.3249. We were unable to beat 1.3325 level however and in fact we topped out exactly here. If we hold below 1.3325/18 there we should drift back towards 1.3260/50 again today. Exit all shorts and buy in to longs here with the chance of a low for the day. We do need a stop loss below 1.3225 for a test of the next support at 1.3201 with scope for 1.3150/25 which should offer an excellent buying opportunity. If we

S&P 500 (Mar 13) INTRADAY Review We had a short bias yesterday and had defined an entry at 1464. We felt the drift lower seen on Monday as well as Tuesday morning would continue and this was initially correct as we headed into the important data set at 13.30pm. The news was mixed with a better than expected Retail Sales number and a disappointing print for Empire State Manufacturing. What followed was a very steady and slow paced upwards trend as investors took the Retail Sales numbers as

Has the correction phase begun? We recommend investors to BUY GBP Review: Consolidation offering further potential. JPY: Akari’s statements weaken JPY. Statements from Akari, Japan’s minister for “Economic Revival”, to the effect that a level above 100 for USDJPY is not desirable for the economy caused JPY to fall. Generally we have recently heard comment from Japanese ministers and civil servants indicating that the current level is appropriate. We still expect JPY to strengthen. Consumer

EUROSTOXX 50 (Mar 13) INTRADAY Review The Eurostoxx opened lower yesterday morning, filled the gap and sold off throughout the former part of the session, setting a new low for the week but finding support at last Thursday’s low. The gap fill following the lower open allowed the price to test our yesterday’s neutral entry short at 2,713. Both of our profit targets were reached during the ensuing phase of downside momentum. Ultimately yesterday’s session lacked a consistent direction for the

Forecast for 16th January 2013 Spot Euro EURUSD was expected to pull back a bit yesterday and we did get a test of support at 1.3308/00 and a bounce from here exactly as predicted. We then broke lower but have not quite reached the next target of 1.3249 but should see this level if we can hold below 1.3308/18.
